Media Center Curriculum
The computer lab curriculum is composed of three main components:
• Technology Skill Building – learning how to use the Internet as a research tool and how to use all the software and equipment available at St. Joe’s as tools to enhance learning across the curriculum.
• Keyboarding – all grade levels will practice keyboarding. The ultimate goal is to type 40 wpm by graduation from St. Joseph. The first trimester of fourth grade, students have an extra half period in the computer lab that is spent entirely on keyboarding.
• Projects – assignments that build technical skills to integrate technology into all subject areas. Projects will support both computer curriculum and classroom curriculum.
The library skills curriculum will allow students to learn how to use available materials and develop skills to aide their learning and enhance their research for classroom based projects. The library curriculum will also encourage students to read not only for research, but for pure enjoyment. Students will be encouraged to explore various genres and be exposed to a wide variety of authors and illustrators.
